The layer will be updated after the month of October each calendar year as new GIS data becomes available from the participating Counties. For example, the new layer will be called CA_WA_2005 for this next year. It will have all the available current GIS data as well as any old County data that was not replaced.
BE AWARE for 2004 layer: San Benito, San Luis Obispo and Nevada Counties GIS data was head-up digitized from scanned and georeferenced paper maps provided by the counties to DoC-DLRP. Polygon and data base information is useful for display purposes and some general spatial validation.
Stanislaus - I downloaded the County's parcel GIS coverage from their website. I then used FMMP data and NRCS soils data to classify WA Prime, Non-Prime and used the Mixed classification to identify the remainder. The parcel coverage identified which parcels were WA contracts. The result is a rough best guess (100% spatially accurate / ~50% WA category accurate), but a better valued map than the paper map the County has returned in the past. I will be requesting from the County a WA GIS coverage with the 2006 reporting cycle.
Kern - I downloaded the County's parcel GIS coverage from their website. I then scanned and georeferrenced the hand edited paper map the County provided last year and head-up edited the WA categories from the scan into the parcel coverage. The parcel coverage did not identified which parcels were WA contracts, I got that from the paper map and likely captured a few to many parcels under contract rather than too few. Again, the result is a rough best guess (~95% spatially accurate / ~85% WA category accurate), but a better valued map than the paper map the County has returned in the past. I will be requesting from the County a WA GIS coverage with the 2005 reporting cycle.
